Masson on the move in SA Women's Open

PENNINGTON, KwaZulu-Natal (13 July 2012) – Germany’s Caroline Masson moved a step closer to her maiden victory on the Ladies European Tour when she opened with a three-under-par 69 to lead the first round of the South African Women’s Open by two strokes on Friday.

Masson justified her status as the top-ranked player in the field and dropped only one shot on a tough day at Selborne Park Golf Club.

Stacy Bregman is the leading South African following a 71 that places her in a group alongside France’s Joanna Klatten and Julie Greciet, and Anais Maggetti of Switzerland.

Players take shark dive in South Africa

12 July 2012

Four members of the Ladies European Tour took a shark dive on Thursday morning ahead of the South African Women’s Open, taking place on 13-15 July at Selborne Park Golf Club in KwaZulu-Natal.

Australian Lindsey Wright and England’s Felicity Johnson were joined by Indian duo Sharmila Nicollet and Smriti Mehra in the cage dive out of Rocky Bay, Pennington.

Golf pros share their knowledge with the next generation

YOUNGSTERS received golf tuition from some of the country’s top players - past and present - at a development clinic held at Port Shepstone Country Club today (Thursday).

This was held in conjunction with the pro-am preceding the SA Women’s Open which will be played at Selborne Park from July 13 to 15.

SA stars call for more support of women’s golf

On the eve of the South African Women’s Open at Selborne Park Golf Club, the country’s leading female golfer, Lee-Anne Pace, has called on local government and businesses to become involved and show their support for women’s professional golf in South Africa.

Pace, a five-time Ladies European Tour champion and former money list winner, said the return of the country’s premier professional golf tournament to the Ladies European Tour (LET) schedule should provide the kick-off point to establishing a new ladies professional tour.

Germany’s Masson, who ranks fourth on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit, and sixth ranked Caudal from France headline a strong international entry of 56 LET players in the field of 84 players scheduled to compete for a total purse of R2.7 million at Selborne Park Golf Club from 13-15 July.
