Pace in share of third in Spain

South African Lee-Anne Pace shares third position after a solid opening round at the Tenerife Open de España Femenino at Golf Las Américas on Thursday.

Pace, posted a four-under-par 68, which included two bogeys and six birdies.  The 31-year-old will be chasing Australian Nikki Garrett who set a blistering pace as she posted a career low round of eight-under-par 64.

Shin earns major victory at Ricoh Women’s British Open

Jiyai Shin of South Korea was in a league of her own as she collected her second Ricoh Women’s British Open title in five years at Royal Liverpool.

The 24-year-old former world number one shot a final round of 73 in brutal conditions to finish as the sole competitor under par for the championship on a 279, nine under total.

She was nine strokes clear of fellow South Korean Inbee Park (72) with Paula Creamer of the United States a stroke further back in third after a wet and windy 36 holes.

Lee-Anne Pace was the only representative from South Africa left to contest the final two rounds.  She posted rounds of 77 and 76 to finish at 14-over-par total and tied for 39th position.

Pace fights back to make Major Cut

South Africa's No.1 female golfer Lee-Anne Pace birdied her final hole of her second round to make the cut of the weather affected Ricoh Women’s British Open being played at Royal Liverpool.

Pace, who started the day in a tie for 74th position at four-over-par, got off to a rocky start with bogeys on her opening two holes.  However, the talented player from George, bounced back well with three birdies in her next eight holes.  A stretch of three bogeys in her next six holes saw her fall one shot outside the projected cut line of five-over-par heading into the last hole of the day.   The 2010 LET Player of the Year showed great composure to birdie the par 5 18th to finish at five-over-par and tied for 42nd position and back within the cut line.

Day Two Cancelled after Gales at Hoylake

Cut Reduced to 50 players and ties for final 36 holes on Sunday

Play was abandoned for the day at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, due to high winds. Round two is scheduled to start at 6.50am local time Saturday.

Earlier in the day the Rules Committee declared the scores returned Friday morning null and void in accordance with Rule 33-2d.

The competitors began their round in extremely adverse weather conditions and conditions subsequently worsened despite the belief that they would remain stable.

According to the official statement issued by Susan Simpson, Ladies’ Golf Union Tournament Director: “It would have been unfair to those competitors not to declare play null and void and cancel all scores for the round in question.”

Korean Duo Lead on Day One at Royal Liverpool

South Korean duo So Yeon Ryu and Haeji Kang shot two under par 70s to share the first round lead at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool.

They shared the highest 18-hole score to lead the championship since it became a Major in 2001 and although conditions were relatively benign compared with earlier in the week, players generally struggled to hit the narrow fairways and escape the thick and punishing rough in a tricky breeze.

For the three South African players in the field, Lee-Anne Pace and Stacy Lee Bregman both posted a four-over-par 76 and is tied for 74th position, while Tandi Cunningham is a further shot back and tied for 95th position.
